When buying the house, we knew the East chimney was in poor shape and in need of extensive repairs. Because the fireplaces were originally coal burning, we decided we’d never use this fireplace anyway, so we took the chimney down. But the brick face of the fireplace had some problems, too. Among these problems was the 3/4″ dip in its bricked apron. The dip would catch a dining room chair leg or make it hard to sit comfortably. So today the brick was removed to determine how best to proceed with re-facing this fireplace. Below are before and after pics. Stay tuned for the final outcome.
